 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

            Students will broaden their basic knowledge of Hebrew through literature and conversation.  Development of reading strategies will be learned as a tool of language acquisition.  Students will have access to materials available to native speakers such as current periodical articles and Israeli textbooks.  Modern Hebrew literature will be used as a tool for increasing vocabulary and grammatical skills. 

            This course will be taught primarily in Hebrew.  Supplemental units will enrich and expand the classroom experience.  These units will deal with various aspects of everyday life such as using reference materials, Hebrew periodicals, television and music.

 

GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

            In addition to emphasizing the development of oral facility, this class also aims to enable the intermediate student to deal competently with a more complex range of Hebrew especially journalistic and literary Hebrew.  Students will progress to an overall greater command of Hebrew usage. 

 

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS:

            Students are expected to attend class regularly.  Occasional homework assignments must be completed on time.  Participation in class activities and discussions is not only expected, but is a vital aspect in the development of a speaking vocabulary.  Students are required to come to class on time, prepared for the lesson and with an attitude conducive to learning.
